While there are several Indian restaurants in Des Moines, I’ve not found one that has become a standard in my trips there. That changed today, when I had lunch with a friend at a new restaurant on Mills Civic Parkway (near Jordan Creek Mall). When I noticed it a few weeks ago, before it opened, I was cautiously optimistic, since I noticed it was a franchise-chain restaurant. After trying their food today, it’s clear that they’re doing it right. Unlike most midwestern Indian restaurants, there is no buffet, which I think is a plus–everything is prepared fresh, and the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. For two of us, we ordered an appetizer, naan, and two entrees. The portions are generous, and the prices reasonable: for garlic naan, onion padoka, chicken tikka masala (we both agreed that it was the best we’d had in the midwest) and dal tadka, we paid, with a 20% tip, 32 bucks–and we brought home leftovers. The waiter, who couldn’t have been more friendly, also treated us to a sample of their signature biryani, which was amazing–something I’ll definitely order next time there, which I hope will be soon!
